A survey of members of the conservation charity the Bailies of Bennachie has found that they value the work the organisation carries out monitoring and working on the hillside.

The study found that 97 per cent valued what is done to maintain the paths and landscape.

The group sought feedback from members on what they think about the charity and what its priorities should be.

The work of the Bailies of Bennachie has been limited this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Outreach officer Fiona Cormack said: “It costs only £10 to become a lifetime member of the Bailies and there is a large membership.

"We keep in touch through our annual report and regular emails but don’t always hear from our members.

"A survey was a chance to find out what they think about the charity and what its priorities should be. We sent it out by email and had nearly 150 replies.

“Nearly everyone who responded knew and appreciated the work of the work parties and hill wardens but more than 70 per cent of respondents also thought other groups such as the wildlife group and Bennachie Landscapes were important.

"The wildlife group studies animals and plants on the hill and the landscapes group do research into the history and landscape of the area.”

“The survey revealed that most members live within 20 miles of Bennachie and visit regularly to walk, cycle and run.

"Some members live elsewhere in the UK and abroad and use their membership to keep up with events on the hill.

“Several members taking part in the survey have come forward to volunteer to help with aspects of the Bailies work.

"We welcome new members to support our work of protecting the unique landscape of Bennachie."
