Work is continuing this evening as of 8.30pm to clear the A96 following an accident on the road earlier in the afternoon near Huntly.

A police spokesperson said: "We are in attendance on the A96 at the junction with the A97, Huntly, following a crash involving a lorry and a car that happened around 4.30pm on Monday, January 22.

’Three people from the car have been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

’The lorry has shed its load of logs and recovery is underway.

’The road is closed southbound and it will take some time to clear completely.

"A local diversion in place."

Update 10pm - The diversion has been lifted temporarily to allow traffic flow with clearance set to continue on Tuesday.

Update 2pm, Tuesday 23 - West bound traffic is being diverted along the A97 until recovery of the timber is completed. East bound traffic is being allowed to pass through the lay-by.

This will continue until work is completed or daylight hours pass and safe working cannot continue (also subject to weather conditions).

Update 4.15pm, Tuesday 23 - Work has now been completed and the road has reopened.
