THE winners of a fun summer competition run by Friends of Jubilee Hospital have been announced.

Friends of Jubilee challenged youngsters and families in Huntly to find 46 'odd or wacky' items in shop windows.

Aaron Milne, who attends Forgue Primary School, was the winner of the under-12s competition.

The Macpherson family – Alan, Janice and daughter Robin – were the winners of the family competition.

Businesses were also competing against one and other, with Peterkins' unique display seeing them come out on top in the business category.

Fiona Murray, of Friends of Jubilee Hospital, was pleased with the success of the summer-long event.

"It was wonderful to see businesses rise to the occasion by taking part in this competition," she said. "It really brings the community together.

"We had 46 businesses involved and some people have been making comment that a particular business sold a certain item. It makes people look in windows and realise just what local businesses sell.

"The girls at Peterkins put in a heap of work to do what they did, it was just a fantastic display.

"Thanks, also, to everyone who took part. The kids could do this at any time of the day or evening. I think the weather was a factor in us not having so many entries this year, but everyone enjoyed it so that's fine."

Around a dozen entries for the competition were received. The main objective was raising the profile of Friends of Jubilee.

"We are not out there to make oodles of money," Fiona added. "We just want to keep the hospital in everybody's mind.

"The hospital is so important to all of us in Huntly and people are very supportive of it.

"Rothieden has been closed for some time, but the roof is finished and work is ongoing on the interior.

"There is a new water system being put in and we are going to have a fantastic, fit-for-purpose, hospital at the end of the day.

"The cost is around £1 million and Friends of Jubilee will be contributing tens of thousands towards that."

Friends of Jubilee continues to run its grand raffle, with money going towards the Rothieden Unit's refurbishment.

The competition will close on March 2, with the winner to be drawn at the Farmer's Market.

"We are so grateful to local businesses who are supporting the raffle and have donated generous prizes," Fiona said. "It's fantastic."
