A change in leadership at Aberdeenshire Council is on the cards in the coming days after current leader Mark Findlater was ousted by fellow Tories.

Following the AGM of the local Conservative party on Saturday, Ellon councillor Gillian Owen was made leader after a vote was held.

Whether councillor Owen will become the next council leader remains to be seen, but a vote would have to be held amongst councillors of all parties in Aberdeenshire for a new leader to be elected.

Currently the biggest single party in the local authority, the Conservatives hold 26 seats, followed by SNP with 21, the Liberal Democrats on 14 and nine independents.

The new deputy group leader is Peterhead councillor Stewart Adams.
