FIVE people from Moray have died from coronavirus over the last week, according to figures released today.

Three of these deaths were in hospital and two at home.

The weekly update from the National Records of Scotland (NRS), for May 25-31 (week 22), brings the total number of Moray residents to have died to 19. These are deaths where coronavirus was mentioned on death certificates.

The latest NRS figures show that two of these Moray residents have died in care homes, six people at home and 11 in hospital throughout the pandemic.

The Moray death total last Wednesday, May 27, was 14.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Moray currently stands at 78, according to Health Protection Scotland.

The NRS figures show 3,911 deaths have been registered to date in Scotland where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

Pete Whitehouse, NRS director of statistical services, said: "Every death from this virus is a tragedy. These statistics, alongside the other important evidence being made available by the Scottish Government and Health Protection Scotland, are valuable to the understanding of the progress and impact of the Covid-19 virus across Scotland."

Meanwhile the Scottish Government's daily update shows 33 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 across Scotland and 11 new reported deaths of people who have tested positive, bringing the total number of hospital deaths in Scotland to 2,386.

The government statistics show that across the whole of Grampian, there have been 1282 total confirmed coronavirus cases to date. There are currently 64 people in hospitals in the area – none of them are in intensive care.
