For those that are missing the Great Inverurie Bike Ride this year, there is a chance to join other cyclists in virtual cycling challenge.

While lots of people have been able to use their bikes more recently, one thing that many will still be missing is the opportunity to take part in group events.

To provide some lockdown respite, a virtual cycling challenge has been organised by Live Life Aberdeenshire's events team, which normally organises the Great Inverurie Bike Ride and local triathlons.

Using the same online leaderboard system as the recent virtual run event, cyclists can set a distance target then enter their times, even challenging friends and family.

Whether you’re a competitive cyclist or a complete beginner, it’s designed to help give you some motivation or a training opportunity for any events on the horizon.

You can even work as a team to meet a challenge you set yourselves and have some fun doing it.

All you have to do to take part is set your target distance then record your daily cycle rides over a week.

Cycle each day, or whenever you can manage, aiming to complete the challenge you’ve set yourself, then see how times and distances compare to others on the leaderboard.

Entries to Live Life Aberdeenshire’s 7-day Virtual Pedal Challenge are open from now until Tuesday, June 30.

The challenge itself will run from Friday, June 26 until Monday, July 6 and all participants must comply with current lockdown and social distancing restrictions.
