PEOPLE in Keith are set to be given a unique opportunity to sit in the cockpit of an in-use aeroplane in the town.
On Thursday, June 15, Christian organisation Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) will be bringing a real plane to Keith Grammar School.
As part of a day to help primary seven pupils transition to high school, students and staff members will be invited to sit in the plane's cockpit, with a flight simulator and a host of other attractions adding to the special occasion.
After school hours – between 3.45pm and 5pm – members of the public are invited to go along and have a look for themselves.
MAF, established in 1945, uses planes to overcome natural and man-made barriers to deliver relief workers, doctors, pastors, schoolbooks, food and medicines to people in need around the world.
It has a plane taking off or landing every six minutes, making it the world's largest humanitarian airline.
The organisation is bringing this plane to Keith free of cost as a way of educating pupils and the general public.
The plane will be dismantled and taken north in a van before being reassembled at the school.
This trip to Keith follows a recent visit to the town by MAF in May, when Transitioning P7s and S1s welcomed Andy Martin and Cat Mahato from MAF to their classes to hear about the work the organisation.
The classes were set the challenge of producing A4 artwork that allows them to express their own understanding of what MAF does.
These will be on display at the school’s transition day along with many photographic images of what MAF does throughout the world.
On Saturday, June 17, the exhibition of MAF images ‘Every Picture tells a Story’, will be on display at Keith North Church alongside the artworks designed by the children.
It is a free event and will run between 2pm and 4pm. All are welcome to attend the gallery event.
