Two car crash near Macduff leaves five in hospital

FIVE people have been taken to hospital following a crash on the A947 today (January 14).

The two car crash, near the C C Powell country store, led to a woman being airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary's Major Trauma Centre by Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA).

Four others were also taken to Dr Gray's in Elgin as a precaution.

Police, fire and SCAA personnel confirmed they had attended the incident.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said they were called to the accident at 12.29pm today.

Three pumps attended the crash along with their heavy rescue unit.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they had now left the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 12.15pm on Saturday, 14 January, to a report of a two car crash on the A947 at the Montbletton junction near Banff.

“Emergency services attended and one person has been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.

"Four others have been taken to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin as a precaution.

“The road is closed while recovery of the vehicles takes place.”

A spokesperson for SCAA said: "Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance was deployed from Aberdeen with a critical care team and flew to the scene.

"They then airlifted a female patient to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, a 20 minute flight away.

"The patient was taken to the Major Trauma Centre at ARI."
