Two Formartine groups are to be awarded a share of council cash following approval from councillors.
Auchterellon Under 5’s and Turriff Town Pride Group applied for funding from the Formartine area committee budget.
The committee considered both applications when they met on Tuesday, November 8.
Auchterellon Under 5’s will get £1185 to buy a new boiler.
The charity-run nursery’s existing boiler has been deemed to be “beyond repair” and is currently running on a temporary fix.
Meanwhile Turriff Town Pride Group will receive £1000.
The group will use the cash to replace its hanging baskets with new self-watering ones.
They will also spend some of the money to replace broken planters.
The new hanging baskets are more sustainable and will reduce the group’s water useage in the summer months.
The Turriff group also hopes the new purchases will help to improve the area and attract more visitors.
Councillor Anne Stirling voiced her support for the group’s application.
She said: “Turriff Town Pride and associated volunteers do extremely well and present the town to a very high standard in terms of floral decoration so I’d have no hesitation in supporting their application.
“I think it would be very well received in terms of reducing the amount of work that’s required for watering so I absolutely support this.”
Committee chairman councillor Iain Taylor agreed and said: “The Turriff Pride Group do a huge amount of work all summer and anything that reduces their workload will be greatly appreciated.”
