Turriff teens paid their respects to the fallen and the fighting on Friday.

A group of senior pupils approached staff to put forward the idea after being moved by what they were learning about war in their classes, and staff were more than happy to facilitate the opportunity.

The whole school participated in a special armistice assembly and two minute silence.

A group of pupils then made their way to the war memorials on Balmellie Road where piper Keiran Walker played before a wreath was laid on behalf of the school.

Head teacher Lee Menzies said: "They're here because they wanted to be; they asked if they could do it and they planned it themselves."

The pupils were praised by Turriff Legion members for their efforts, with one saying: "It's really nice to see the younger generations getting involved, they've done really well."
