Turriff Show welcomes entries for craft and horticulture competition

While the main Turriff Show sees a second year of cancellation due to lockdown restrictions, organisers have reinstated elements of the highly popular industrial Section competition for youngsters.

Show secretary Helen Paterson said: "We are delighted to say that Turriff Show will run a number of competitions this year despite there being no 2021 Show.

" We have set up a competition schedule which includes a section for children with prize money to be won."

All ages Section 1 classes -

1 Page of scrapbooking.

2 Painted pebble.

3 Turriff in 100 Words – This class is in memory of Joe Watson – Content only to be judged.

4 Engagement card (with insert).

5 Golden Wedding anniversary party invitation, not to exceed A5 size, Computer Generated.

6 Photograph of a farm scene taken by exhibitor – This class is in memory of Joe Watson. (maximum photo size 7in x 5in mounted on card, unframed).

7 Garden photograph taken by exhibitor (maximum photo size 7in x 5in mounted on card, unframed).

8 Amusing photograph (with caption) taken by exhibitor (maximum photo size 7in x 5in mounted on card, unframed).

9 Winter scene photograph taken by exhibitor (maximum photo size 7in x 5in mounted on card, unframed).

10 Picture in black and white line drawing.

11 Picture, any other medium but not a photograph.

Section 2 – children’s section - all entries in this section must be the work of a child.

12 Drawing in crayon or felt tip pen of ‘My Granny or Granda’, A4 size (Pre-school age)

13 Handwritten envelope addressed to Turriff Show Secretary, A5 size, writing only to be judged (5-7 years).

14 Drawing in crayon or felt tip pen of ‘My Pet’, A4 size (5-7 years).

15 Handwritten 4 line verse, writing only to be judged, A5 unmounted (8-9 years).

16 Drawing in crayon or felt tip pen of a Lockdown Hero, A4 size (8-9 years).

17 Handwritten 4 line verse, writing only to be judged, A5 unmounted (10-11 years).

18 Drawing in crayon or felt tip pen of a Lockdown Hero, A4 size (10-11 years).

19 Handwritten 4 line verse, writing only to be judged, A5 unmounted (12-13 years).

20 Computer generated poster thanking the NHS, A4 size (12-13 years).

21 Photograph of a pet, mounted on card, by child Preschool age.

22 Birthday photograph, mounted on card, by child 5-7 years.

23 Summertime photograph, mounted on card, by child 8-9 years.

Section 3 – youth section for youths aged 14-17 years

31 Computer Generated Card for 18th Birthday, A5 size.

32 Pencil Drawing, not a photograph, maximum A4 size.

Section 4 – flower arrangement

Exhibitors are required to send by post or email no more than three images from all different aspects of their arrangement to the Secretary for judging before the closing date – images only accepted not actual arrangements.

33 Open Class – Table Decoration suitable for a Special Celebration – an exhibit using natural material, accessories permitted, width 3ft/91cm.

34 ‘Celebrating Autumn’ – an exhibit using fresh foliage and/or items from the hedgerow, width 1ft 6in/45cm - confined to Scottish Association of Young Farmers’ Members

35 ‘A Visit to the Seaside’ – a petite exhibit using natural plant material not to exceed 10in/25cm width, depth and height – open to pupils attending Secondary School.

36. An arrangement using wild flowers and grasses, width 1ft 6in/45cm – open to pupils attending Primary School in 2021.

For Classes 1 – 32 - All entries must either be sent by post or delivered to the Secretary of the Agricultural Association at the address below before the closing date of Saturday, July 10.

Classes 33 – 36 - All images must either be sent by post or email to the Secretary of the Agricultural Association at the address below before the closing date

The name and address of the Exhibitor must be attached to the entry in a sealed envelope and the class number written on the outside or included in the email for Classes 33 – 36 sent by email.

Entries will not be returned to each Exhibitor after judging but may be collected from the Secretary of the Agricultural Association at the address below if desired or include a stamped addressed envelope for return.
