Turriff Show sheep champions take the spotlight

The sheep judging was one of the main focuses for farmers at Turriff Show on Monday.

The overall interbreed champion was won by the Texel tup lamb Auldhouseburn Fancy Pants from Jim Innes’ Strathbogie flock based at Dunscroft near Huntly.

The interbreed reserve was won by the Blue Texel champion from Deborah Atkinson of Insch with the one-crop ewe Derg Foxylady.

Jim Innes said of the victory: "We are over the moon to win the Turriff Show interbreed champion.

"He was first at the Royal Highland Show as well so it has been a successful summer. The shepherd is Michael Leggat.

"We are maybe going to do Keith Show as well and that will be it. We'll see how that goes.

"Turriff is a great show which is worth coming to."

He also had the reserve in the Texel category with a full embryo transfer sister to the champion.

The Blue Texel reserve champion was from Stuart and Wendy Hunter of Insch, with a home-bred shearling tup by Hunters Email, out of a Turbo ewe.

Turriff Show hosted The Scottish National Ryeland Show which was judged by Tom Redmayne. It was won by Eddie and Janice Henderson of Kinross with a home-bred gimmer Landriggs Cinderalla, by Red Sewell Alfie, out of a home-bred ewe.

They also won the reserve with homebred shearling tup Landriggs Cardhu, by Landriggs ZZ Top.

The Beltex winner was from Alan Miller of Midmar with Lurg Harvie ET, out of Lurg Fern and by Vicky’s Gladiator. The Ingram family of Logie Durno won the reserve with threeshear tup Buckles Fury.

The Blackface champion was from Neil and Stuart Barclay, with a home-bred threecrop ewe by £32,000 Dalchirla, out of a home-bred ewe. The reserve winner was W & A Walker of Kirriemuir.

The Bleu du Maine winner was from Andrew Wylie of Kirriemuir, with a twoshear tup Hayden Victory, by Perdi Singy Boy. The reserve was from Calum Cruden of Dyce, with a home-bred gimmer Standing Stones Winter, by Standing Stones Ramos, out of a home-bred ewe.

The Bluefaced Leicester champion was from Matthew Seed of Cuminestown, with a home-bred shearling tup by West Bolton N2, out of a home-bred ewe by 3500gns Myfyrian H1. Matthew Seed also won the reserve with a home-bred three-crop ewe by 5000gns Burndale K1.

The Bluefaced Leicester cross champion was from Jim and Sandy Hunter of Huntly with a two-crop home-bred ewe by L1 Dhunow, out of a home-bred ewe. They also won the reserve with a tup lamb by Midlock Zeus, out of a home-bred ewe.

The Charollais category was won by Taylor Dalgarno of Maud with a home-bred gimmer by Knockin Welterweight, loaned from Braemuir, out of a Braemuir dam. The reserve champion was from The Ingram family of Logie Durno, with shearling tup Wernfawr Ace by Logie Durno Wall St.

The Cross sheep singles champion was from William and David Moir of Cairness, with a home-bred three-quarter Texel gimmer by a Knock sire, out of a Texel cross mother. The reserve winner was from Craig Paterson of Aberchirder, with a Suffolk cross Texel ewe lamb by a home-bred tup.

The Small and horned minority category was won by Sam Robson of Huntly, with a home-bred Welsh Mountain gimmer. The reserve champion was from Ian Forsyth of Aberlour, with twoshear Jacob tup Luruha Gordo, by Harbal Lincoln.

The Suffolk champion was from Craig Paterson of Aberchirder with a home-bred two-crop ewe by Strathbogie Stormzy, out of a home-bred ewe by Strathbogie AK Magic. The reserve went to Graeme Christie of Inverurie with a home-bred gimmer by Castleisle Comedian, out of a Strathisla Stiffler ewe.

The Zwartbles champion was from Sammy Stewart of Drummuir, with tup lamb Janetstown Legacy, by Aquila Jumanji, out of a home-bred ewe by Janetstown Juniper. The reserve winner was from Kevin and Wendy Anderson of Inverness, with one-crop ewe Craigies Jazz It Up, by Bridgelands Fingal, out of Eildon Hill Beat The Clock.

The Any other breed MV-accredited winner was from Michelle Hanson and Darren Irvine of Keith, with a homebred Badger Face Texel gimmer Silvermere Deadlynight Shade. They also won the reserve with an embryo tup lamb by an imported ram.

The Any other breed non-MV champion was from Neil and Stuart Barclay of Insch, with a threecrop home-bred North Country Cheviot park-type ewe. The reserve winner was Lewis Gallier of Inverurie, with a North Country Cheviot ewe lamb.

The Pens of cross sheep was won by Willie and John Brown of New Deer, with homebred North Country Cheviot park-type gimmers. Two are by Humbleheugh Wam Bam, and the other is by Humbleheugh Xtra Blend. The reserve champion was from Ivan Keith of Peterhead, with Texel cross Cheviot gimmers.

The Sheep young handlers under 10 years and overall was won by Erin Irvine of Drummuir; second was Lucy Harding of Rothienorman; and third was Sarah Fowlie of Insch.

The under 14 years section was won by Fletcher Russell of Stirling; second was Maria Rhind of Kinloss; and third was Isaac Miskelly of Alford.

In the 14 to 16 years category Logan Knox of Fyvie was first; second was Grant Rhind of Kinloss and third was Laura Smith of Inverurie.
