The biggest two-day agricultural show in Scotland makes a welcome return to the Haughs in Turriff on Sunday, July 30 and Monday 31 as the 159th Turriff Show gets underway.

Attracting well over 24,000 people over two jam packed days, it offers a wide range of activities, competitions and displays for those involved in farming, agriculture, non-farmers and families.

Starting off pre-show on Friday evening, the show marquee is headlined by DJ Greigsy from 9pm - 1am for a Dance Anthems evening.

Sunday’s focus is on equestrian events and competitions and the day opens with judging across breed sections before moving on to carriage driving and the donkey section.

Throughout the day there is also goat, rabbit, cavy and pigeon judging going on at the showfield marquee.

Following the championship judging at 2.15pm, its the turn of the Sulky racing to take centre stage with the first of two heats run around the showring.

Headliners Stuntworld International take centre stage just after the racing, and have something different and new for 2023.

With a new team leader and a brand-new style Stunt Show with the latest motorcycles, rollover quad and rollover motorbike and not forgetting the two-wheel drive jeep, the team perform two thirty-minute shows that need to be seen to be believed on Sunday and Monday.

Its the turn of adults and children next to show off their sporting prowess with the free to enter ring races for various age groups, and the popular big bag race is set to prove a challenge for competitors this year.

The Show also hosts one of the largest vintage and classic vehicle displays in Scotland and over 120 vehicles will make their way round the main ring on Sunday evening.

Sunday also sees canine companions from across the north-east and beyond head to Turriff for the Open Dog Show. which consists of 153 classes broken down into seven groups which are judged by six judges.

All seven Best in Group winners compete for Best in Show. Judges enjoy testing their breed knowledge against the breed standards and many judges travel all over the UK and Abroad.

Or why not take your dog along to the Companion Dog Show on the Monday where there are entries on the day.

A packed programme on Monday sees the local heats of the BSJA show jumping competition take place in the showring where junior and adult competitions take place to the delight of the crowd,

Cattle and sheep breeds go head to head in the breed championships as they vie for the championship titles on offer.

This year the show welcomes two national breed events, with the Aberdeen-Angus cattle and Ryeland sheep nationals.

Raymond Aitken from Fetternear is the north-east representative for the Scottish Ryeland’s Group and has been showing Ryeland’s for over 26 years.

He said: “Originating from Herefordshire, Ryeland’s are amongst one of the oldest of the established breeds in the UK.

“We bought our first two Ryeland’s in 1997 at Thainstone Mart.

“There has been a lot of fun and excitement over our many years of showing this docile and ‘easy to look after’ breed, and we are really looking forward to taking them to Turriff Show this year and we are thrilled to be hosting the national show and look forward to seeing you all there.”

The cattle sections will also draw a large crowd as previous show winners and those that have picked up awards at other Scottish shows are put before the judges.

Monday also sees the Clydesdale horse judging taking place with the champion joining the horse, sheep and cattle overall champions for the Champion of Champions title.

Rounding off the animal events for the day is the grand parade before the showring welcomes back the sulky racers for a second day of comeptition and the Stuntworld International show.
