Friends of Turriff Community Hospital (FOTCH) are set to host a special celebratory event on Friday evening in the town to mark the completion of the palliative care suite within Turriff Community Hospital.

The unit, which has been named The Deveron Suite, provides a family area enabling privacy and living facilities adjacent to a patient bed.

The area has been furnished with a sofa bed, table, chairs, crockery and microwave allowing loved ones to stay as long as they wish, even facilitating overnight stays.

With a newly landscaped outdoor space accessible from the patio doors within the family area, giving freedom, solace and privacy.

From inception to completion it has taken approx. 10 years.

The build was not without its challenges, with build costs agreed and a start date in 2020, Covid delivered a huge delay and increase to build materials.

The project, and all associated costs have been 100 per cent funded by the generosity of local businesses and the local community of Turriff and surrounding areas.

All soft furnishings, crockery and so on were also funded by FOTCH.

This achievement is simply astounding from a small community.

A spokesperson for the group said: "Whilst we would love to name businesses and people for their help and donations, there are far too many to mention.

"Donations came from many sources, for instance; attending fund raising events, direct donations, money bequeathed from personal estates and collections from memorial services.

"You know who you are and we want to thank each and every one of you, this is your achievement.

"A major event in the history of the hospital has been completed.

A spokesman from NHS concluded “We are delighted with the refurbishment and extension of the Deveron Suite and are very thankful that we have such a supportive Friends group and local community”.

To celebrate this amazing achievement and to officially open the Deveron Suite, FOTCH are holding an event at Celebrations of Turriff, Friday, November 23 at 7pm to which all are welcomed.
