Turriff groups have benefitted from almost £13,000 of grants less than a year after the opening of a charity shop founded to benefit the community.

The shop opened its doors in April 2021, and at the end of the year community groups were invited to apply for a share of the profits from throughout the year.

Turriff Silver Band were awarded money to purchase new sheet music as well as stands and other accessories, while Turriff Pipe Band were awarded money towards repairs to the roof of the Pipe Band Hall.

Turriff Nursery's share of the money will be spent on planters and gardening tools for the young people to use in their sessions, while Fit Like Forglen? also received money towards compost and plants as well as craft materials.

Visitors will spy a new display cabinet when they visit the museum operated by Turriff And District Heritage Society, thanks to a TLC grant.

Turriff Business Association were successful in securing a grant towards new locks and doors for the High Street public toilets.

Turriff Brownies received a donation towards an upcoming pack holiday while Girlguiding was also awarded a grant towards tents and camping equipment for the older girls.

The money received by Yvonne Milne Dance School will kit dancers out with jackets to wear when they attend competitions.

The final recipient from the 2021 funding pot was Turriff And District Men's Shed who will be using the money towards buying a CNC Engraving Machine for it's members to use at the Shed.

Commenting on the donation towards the toilets, chairwoman of Turriff Business Association Marj Chalmers said: "With the money we received we will be able to modernise the fee collection equipment of the public toilets, as well as freshen up the decor.

"The toilets are a real asset to our High Street and they continue to be well used, even in the quieter months.

"This is an absolutely fantastic amount of money for TLC to be able to inject back into our community."

Turriff Nursery Parent Support Group's Lindsay Miligan said: "The donation for the Turriff Nursery Parent Support Group is for creating a new area of raised beds in the garden so that the nursery children can grow their own fruit, vegetables and flowers.

"The children will be able to grow plants from seeds and bulbs and be responsible for looking after them, learning how to care for plants and hopefully sparking a life long interest in horticulture and respect for the natural world.

"It will also help to teach the children about healthy eating, where our food comes from and inspire them to try new things!"

Sharing their success on social media, Turriff And District Men's Shed wrote: "A great big thank you to Turriff Local Charity for a donation towards a CNC router/engraving machine.

"It’s a fantastic amount of money that TLC have managed to raise in under a year - well done to all."
