LOCAL community groups have a fortnight to apply for grants from a windfarm benefit fund.

The Edintore Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund is open for applications until the deadline on August 26.

Funding is available for projects and activities that improve social and community life and/or the environment in and around the Keith area.

Edintore Wind Farm is located five miles south of Keith and priority is given to applications from groups or projects benefitting those communities within a five-mile radius of the wind farm.

However, applications from outwith this area will be considered and assessed based on merit and proximity to the windfarm area.

Karen Cunningham, community renewables officer at REAP, which administers the community benefit fund, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for local groups to access funding to continue to provide essential services in the community.

"We are always happy to talk through ideas with people and advise them if their organisation and plans are eligible for these funds.

"We are available to give support with any questions about the application form or the process. The funds are open to constituted community groups, charities and social enterprises that benefit the local area."

Since 2016, the fund, set up by Edintore Wind Farm Limited, a joint venture between vento ludens and Koehler Renewable Energy, has awarded grants to 48 groups totalling more than £199,000.

The decision-making panel, made up of local volunteers, give their time to assess the many diverse applications from a wide range of groups.

More information and application forms are available to download from www.reapscotland.org.uk. To discuss eligibility or for support completing an application, contact REAP at info@reapscotland.org.uk or on 01542 888 070.
