A former Brave model has urged men across the north-east to apply for an unforgettable experience and make friends for life.

Friends of ANCHOR is currently searching for models to join the line-up of this year’s Courage on the Catwalk and Brave fashion shows, which have raised more than £1.7million over the last decade.

The shows star 24 men and 24 women from across the north-east and islands who have gone through, or are going through, a cancer or haematology diagnosis. Men and women aged over 16 can apply to take part.

While applications have been coming in thick and fast for the all-women show Courage, the charity is keen to see more Brave applications.

Turriff man Stuart Barron took part in Brave in 2019, a year after being diagnosed with testicular cancer.

He urged people to get their applications in before the January 26 deadline.

“Apply for Brave as it’s an opportunity to make brothers for life and share experiences with people who genuinely understand what it’s like dealing with the Big C.

“It’s an experience I’ll never forget.

“When I think back to my time on the catwalk I’m filled with emotion and pride. I was able to be part of something that was so outwith my comfort zone, but the group of people I was with made it so special.”

Models will be professionally trained during six weeks of rehearsals, with plenty of time to form lasting friends at various socials in the countdown to the shows.

Erica Banks, head of communications at Friends of ANCHOR, said: “We always say Courage and Brave are much more than just a fashion show – it’s the chance to do something completely different and meet new people who have gone through similar experiences.

“The rehearsals in the lead up to the show days are great fun - really social and welcoming, and we kick the whole thing off with an icebreaker dinner, as these guys are going to get to know one another pretty well in the weeks that follow.

"By the time the curtain goes down on the last show, lifelong friendships and support networks have been forged.

“We often find men are a bit shy in coming forward, but we’re really keen to see some more applications for Brave before the deadline. Although they often need a little more encouragement to fill in an application, we know from previous years how much the gents get out of the experience. I really would encourage anyone who’s thinking about it to get in touch with any questions.”

The deadline for applications is noon on January 26. Forms can be downloaded from Friends of ANCHOR’s website. Alternatively e-mail info@friendsofanchor.org or call 01224 859136.

Brave takes place on May 16 and 17, with Courage on the Catwalk on May 18 and 19.

All four shows will be held at P&J Live.

Tickets are still available for Brave, while a waiting list is in operation for

Courage.
