Sections of the A96 on the approach to the roundabout at Huntly are set to benefit from surfacing improvements.

Work is due to get under way on Monday, June 27.

The £1m investment from Transport Scotland will see almost 2km of the A96 resurfaced to create a smoother and safer road for motorists.

The project is expected to take place over three weeks.

The improvements will be carried out between 7.30pm and 6.30am each night, with surfacing due to be completed by 6.30am on Saturday, July 16.

To ensure the safety of road workers as well as motorists, temporary traffic signals with a 10mph convoy system will be in place during working hours.

During the day, temporary traffic lights and a single lane closure will be left in place due to the nature of the works.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the surfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s north east unit representative, said: “This surfacing project at Huntly has been designed to improve the general condition and safety of this section of the A96 for motorists.

“The traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of both roadworkers and motorists. Due to the nature of the works, temporary traffic lights will be required to remain in place during the daytime for safety.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete this project.

“We encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
