The new three week bin cycle is due to commence in the Garioch area.
The new three week bin cycle is due to commence in the Garioch area.

A series of community events are planned for the Garioch area so that residents can ask questions or learn more about the rollout of the new kerbside collection service in person.

Residents can attend community events -

Inverurie Farmers Market on Saturday June 10 8.30am to 1.30pm.

Inverurie Library on Wednesday June 14, 2pm to 6pm.

Westhill Library on Thursday June 22, 2pm to 6pm.

Kintore Primary Wellbeing Festival on Wednesday June 28.

Inverurie Library on Thursday June 29, 4pm to 7pm.

Groups organising their own events can request a community waste officer to attend and help inform about the change by contacting waste@aberdeenshire.gov.uk

Information about the bin collections change is available online at www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/bincollectionschange where answers to frequently asked questions can also be found such as:

Q: How will the new kerbside collection service work?

A: Every household will have three different bin types, with one being emptied each week across a three-week cycle. Those bin types are -

Non-recyclable waste bin (240l), also known as the refuse bin

The new orange-lidded bin (180l) for tins, cans, foil, aerosols, food and drinks cartons as well as plastic bottles, pots, tubs, and trays.

Blue-lidded recycling bin (240l), will then be used for paper, card, and cardboard only.

The new three-weekly collection strategy will not change food waste and battery collections for households, which will continue to be collected on all weeks of the cycle. Food waste caddies and liners, along with battery recycling bags can be collected for free from your local recycling centre or service point.

It’s worth noting that, for route effectiveness, efficiencies, and carbon reduction, the service have altered some households’ collection days for when they begin to use the new bins.

Information about this will be in letters direct to households.

Households due to be on the new three-week cycle for collections have received a postcard and then a letter in the post.

The letter includes important information about the new collection cycle, such as when to start using the orange-lid recycling bin and the change in use for the blue-lid bin.

After a switch to the three-weekly collection cycle in an area, any blue-lid bins that continue to be used for mixed recycling will need to be rejected by collection crews.

If you’ve not received the letter yet, there is no need to worry and no need to get in touch.

It’s not time yet for your area to switch to the three-week collection cycle.

Ultimately, these changes to recycling and waste collections will roll out across all of Aberdeenshire.

Be on the lookout for your postcard and letter to know when three weekly collections will be coming to your area.
