Three drivers were caught doing over 100mph on the A96 during speed checks earlier this week.

Police Scotland say the three, who are aged from 23 to 33, have all been reported for dangerous driving.

The motorists were caught near Elgin, Fochabers and Inverurie on Wednesday during what police are calling a "national speed day of action".

Ten people in total have been reported to the procurator fiscal for speeding offences.

Inspector Lorraine Mackie, from Road Policing in Inverurie, said: "Speed limits are in place ultimately to save lives.

"By reducing your speed, you give yourself more time to react to unexpected changes on the road.

"The actions of the minority of irresponsible drivers are putting lives at risk.

"We will continue to take action to deter this type of behaviour and to improve road safety for all road users."
