AT a meeting at Moray Council last week, councillors agreed to a 'Spend to Save' investment in the local authority's depot in Keith.

Cllr Theresa Coull said the investment was "good news for Keith".
Cllr Theresa Coull said the investment was "good news for Keith".

That will see the addition of a covered salt store at the depot which is intended to make winter maintenance operations more efficient.

It is hoped that the installation will help save a considerable amount of money on salt which can be lost from storage in the open air as a result of wet and harsher weather conditions during the winter months.

It is also hoped that it will improve the working conditions of roads teams in and around the Keith area.

The investment follows on from Moray Council's successful investment in the large salt store in Elgin, which is on a bigger scale but serves the same purpose.

Theresa Coull, SNP Councillor for Keith and Cullen Ward, has backed the investment in the depot and added that it enable saving both in the short and long term.

Cllr Coull said: “This is good news for Keith and will not only improve the efficiency of getting vehicles loaded and out on the roads from the Keith roads depot in the winter but it will also improve the working environment for the roads team and save a significant amount of money on salt.

“Given the amount spent on salt each year, which is also increasing in price, this is a good use of funds that will pay itself back in a relatively short period and continue to save money beyond that, which can help to protect other services.”
