Imelda Staunton as The Queen sets sail from Macduff as scenes shot in north-east for Netflix hit The Crown
"THE Queen" as played by actress Imelda Staunton in Netflix hit The Crown set sail from Macduff Harbour this afternoon after film crews rolled into town to shoot scenes for its fifth and penultimate series.
Staunton has taken on the monarch role previously played by Claire Foy and Olivia Colman.
She was the drama's main character to feature in the one day of filming at the north-east coastal spot for the hugely popular Netflix original drama.
Passers-by stopped to look on at the action as cast members arrived on set at around 2.15pm and jumped aboard a small vessel at the harbour.
The Crown chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II from the 1940s onwards.
It is believed the latest season will cover 1990s events – a period which includes royal marriage breakdowns and the death of Diana Princess of Wales.
Left Bank Pictures crews have taken over the harbourside but all roads remain open in Macduff.
The filming was due to finish by 6pm tonight.
