The Boys’ Brigade in Buchan will be celebrating their Patron HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by joining together for games and a picnic in Strichen Community Park on Saturday, June 11 from 1pm.

To mark the special occasion, they will ask their guests the Hon Kate Nicolson, Deputy Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire, and her husband Captain Mark Nicolson, to plant a tree as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy.

The 10 Companies will meet in Strichen after completing a sponsored walk along the old Formartine and Buchan Railway line.

The sponsorship money will help pay for the upkeep and running costs of the Battalions mini bus.

The event comes at the end of their first full session following the pandemic which has seen many of the groups growing in number, and two now working with boys and girls.

Battalion President Marc Thomson says of the event and celebrating The Queen’s Jubilee: “It will be great to have all sections of every company in the Battalion together again to mark this historic

occasion.

"The Buchan Battalion is very much like a family and we look forward to having a fun filled day whilst giving thanks to our Patron, HM The Queen, for her dedicated service to us all.

The Boys’ Brigade is one of the largest Christian Youth Organisations in the U.K. working with children and young people between the ages of 5 and 18 of all faiths and backgrounds.

Their vision is that every child and young person should have the opportunity to live their life to the full.

Throughout the BB, volunteers provide non-formal education for children and young people supporting them to learn, grow and discover and to develop their skills and abilities, show leadership and take on responsibility, all whilst having a great deal of fun and taking part in many different adventures.

With groups across the Buchan area the organisation is always keen to welcome new members and volunteers!
