Every effort is continuing to bei made in Keith to make sure that nobody is forgotten during lockdown

Upwards of 80 volunteers came forward to offer their services at the start of the crisis – so many that some have not yet had to be called on.

And together they have been delivering food parcels and ready meals to those around the town who have has to self-isolate against the virus.

The food is dropped off by the Moray Food Plus foodbank at Longmore Hall, from where it's distributed around the town.

Moray Councillor Theresa Coull, who has helped co-ordinate the town's coronavirus response, said: "There's been a good deal of local knowledge used to identify who might need help and where they stay.

"Lockdown has been particularly hard on older people who live alone.

"Many are not fixed up with the technology to go online so they can't even see the faces family members or friends.

"They obviously miss the social side of things and being able to chat with people.

"Sometimes the volunteers are virtually the only people they've spoken to all week.

"Therefore, the response we have had on the doorstep has been completely humbling.

"Often it's not so much about the food itself, it's the fact that folk realise they haven't been forgotten about.

"We've had some wonderful thank you cards and messages. Someone even write a very nice poem."

The food parcels contain tea bags, biscuits, fruit and other items such as eggs and milk.

Walkers have also handed over shortbread, while Tesco has been donating mini pancakes.

The parcels tend to be directed to those aged over 70, however help can also be potentially provided to others who might be struggling.

Cllr Coull added: "We'd like to thank all the volunteers. It's true to say that nothing has been too much trouble for them."
