Thainstone Spectacular hits a £5200 top price

The Thainstone Spectacular returned to its usual format on Friday, where a tremendous show of calves with further show potential topped at £5200 for a home-bred, Limousin cross heifer from Newton of Logierait, Pitlochry.

In total, 31 calves sold to average £1799.67 as 23 heifers averaged 404.7p per kg or £1917.39 and eight stots cashed in at 314.8p or £1461.25.

Leading the trade at £5200 was a 440kg, Limousin cross British Blue heifer from John and Craig Robertson, when sold to Lee Hopwood, 80 Yew Tree Lane, Duckingfield, Manchester.

Scaling 440kg, this 13-month-old heifer is by Glenrock Inferno, out of a British Blue cross dam sired by Strathbogie Kansas.

Andrew Anderson of Smallburn Farms, Plewlands, Duffus, received £4000 for the reserve champion heifer weighing 512kg.

Selling to Jack Hendry, Heads of Auchinderran, Keith, was a 16-month-old Limousin cross heifer by Elite Lacette, out of a British Blue cross dam.

The Logierait team also stood overall champion, champion bullock and reserve bullock champion in the pre-sale show and saw their supreme winner realise £3200 to the same buyer.

This was a 14-month-old Limousin cross heifer weighing 472kg which is sired by a British Blue cross Limousin bull.

Next best at for the Robertsons at £1400 was another by Glenrock Inferno, this time the champion bullock which sold to JWK Paterson, Low Tree Mark Farm, Stoneykirk, Stranraer.

This 13-month-old bullock scaled 461kg.

Wilson Peters, Cuilt Farmhouse, Monzie, Crieff, paid £2850 for a Limousin cross heifer from Balfour Baillie, Sebay Farm, Tankerness, Orkney.

This was a home-bred April, 2020-born heifer by Ronick Laddie, out of a Limousin cross dam.

Top price in Gary Bell’s pen was £2250 for a 13-month-old Limousin cross heifer which sold to Blair Duffton, 2 Bogie Street, Huntly.

Meanwhile, Finlay Hunter from West Cairnhill, Culsalmond, Insch, sold his six-month-old Charolais cross heifer for £2200 to Ian Anderson, Grantown-on-Spey.
