After two years of Covid-cancelled events, a local addiction recovery charity is thrilled to be hosting its annual Open Day this summer.

Teen Challenge North East Scotland had held the event every August since 2003 – until the pandemic, with the last one taking place in 2019.

The charity is now gearing up to have the celebration party at its men’s centre, Sunnybrae, near Fyvie, from 2pm-5pm on Saturday, August 27.

All are welcome and anyone heading along on the day is set for an inspiring afternoon, which will include a presentation to highlight Teen Challenge’s work to help men and women find freedom from addiction.

The Open Day will celebrate transformed lives and provide the charity with the opportunity to thank its friends and partners for their invaluable support.

All activities and all food – which will include burgers, cakes, pancakes, popcorn, candy floss – will be free and Sunnybrae’s centre manager, Gordon Cruden, is encouraging people to come along.

He said: “Our annual Open Day always turns out to be a fantastic day. Guests have the opportunity to hear first-hand stories of how men and women have been able to break free from drug addictions to live lives of complete freedom.

“We like to throw in some fun so there will be loads for people to enjoy.

“It’s particularly exciting this year, having had to cancel the event for the last two summers, and as a team we’re thoroughly looking forward to seeing our supporters and thanking them for their help, support and encouragement as we provide men and women with the opportunity to turn their lives around.”

As well as Sunnybrae, Teen Challenge runs a local women’s centre; Benaiah, near Mintlaw.

Both centres are located in rural Aberdeenshire settings, offering peaceful retreats where those suffering from substance misuse can take time out to rebuild their lives.

At the centres, residents complete the charity’s faith-based programme, which is made up of a balanced mix of class-based studies, counselling sessions, personal reflection, work duties and recreation, helping students to become physically, emotionally and spiritually whole.
