Pipetech has secured funding from the Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC) as part of the UK’s emissions reduction initiative and, coupled with the pooling of Pipetech resources across the UK and Norway it will assist in the development of a brand-new Downhole Scale Remediation (DSR) system.

By using only high-pressure water, this offers an effective cleaning alternative to existing interventions. Its design can achieve full bore removal of scale, waxes and corrosion from oil and gas wells, achieving a back to bare metal internal diameter finish without the use of more aggressive traditional methods which can affect wellbore integrity.

The DSR patented system will initially run via tried and tested coiled tubing applications and has the potential to unlock significant energy security benefits.

It may also reduce emissions by maximising recovery from existing wells stock by enabling remediation and repurposing of shut in wells as part of reservoir carbon capture and storage programs.

This new development is likely to spark a recruitment drive for Pipetech, which expects to add two UK industry specialists based in Aberdeenshire and a further three working out of Alberta, Canada this year alone.

They will join the existing team of 12 spread across Aberdeenshire, Norwich and Stavanger.

Commenting on the news, Pipetech Operations Director Leonard Hamill said: “This latest development, assisted with funding from the NZTC, represents an important new chapter in the company’s evolution and one which promises to open up exciting new opportunities as well as diversifying our income stream.”

Business Development Manager Gavin Booth added: “This news is the culmination of three years’ hard work by our team, and we are delighted to have secured support from the Net Zero Technology Centre and look forward to working with our new team members.”
