LONG queues outside Burger King in Elgin yesterday were caused by a technical issue, the store has said.

Vehicles were backed-up all the way down the town's Ashgrove Road – with many waiting for the branch's opening at noon and many trapped by the queues.

Burger King have now said the delay was caused by a technical issue.

A spokesperson told the Northern Scot: "The restaurant was delayed opening due to a software issue with one of the card machines, which led to a queue of cars forming for the drive-through to open.

"Burger King staff worked to disperse the queue while the card machine was fixed.

"Though police were not called to disperse the queue, they passed by to check everything was in hand."

Everything is now up and running at Burger King, which is offering a limited menu and not accepting cash payment for the time being.
