This is the second year of the north-east championship and Ellon B team are hoping to go one better than runner-up in 2022. Alford have reached their first final.

This week Doug Winchester, Charlie Allan, Eddie Daniel and skip Graham Clark of Ellon B saw off a strong challenge from Inverurie and came home winners 13-8 and 13-12.

Ellon are strongly fancied as they have been well coached by Mike Taylor of the same club.

Alford have yet to select their team but have come through three rounds and are playing well.

Andrew McCartney, organiser of the tournament, said the standard of play has improved.

Acting as umpire he controlled well the combative spirit during the semi-final.

The petanque pitch, owned and maintained by Oldmeldrum Rotary Club played well, said John Nicol from the losing Inverurie Rotary team.

Spectators are welcome at the petanque pitch adjacent to Oldmeldrum Golf Club for the final.
