As part of Scotland On Tour, the initiative to support the recovery of Scotland’s live music industry, celebrated Scottish opera company Opera Bohemia will perform Mozart’s The Marriage Of Figaro at Melvin Hall in Tarves on September 25.

Formed in 2010, Opera Bohemia tours the country performing in many remote communities.

The company often adapts operas for small venues and aims to make opera more accessible to the next generation.

Chief executive and artistic director of Opera Bohemia Douglas Nairne has written a special new English version of The Marriage Of Figaro in order to connect with new and more diverse audiences.

Oliver Platt directs a stellar cast including Catriona Clark and former Scottish Opera emerging artists Andrew McTaggart, Charlie Drummond and Arthur Bruce.

Co-chief executive and musical director of Opera Bohemia Alistair Digges said: “It feels right for Opera Bohemia to be taking part in the Scotland On Tour initiative as we, as a company, have always aimed to bring live opera to different parts of the country, often more remote areas.

"We want to make opera accessible, and we want people of all ages to enjoy the beauty, emotion and in the case of Figaro, comedy of this artform, which has captivated audiences for hundreds of years.

"We're really looking forward to bringing Mozart’s The Marriage Of Figaro to the people of Tarves and hope everyone enjoys the big day!”

Scotland On Tour will take place over a period of 12 months between April 2022 and 2023.

Operations manager for Haddo Arts Cathy Guthrie said: “We are delighted to be presenting this performance in the Melvin Hall as part of our outreach activities in addition to the annual Haddo Arts Festival (October 8-15).

"We share Opera Bohemia’s aims to make opera, and the arts in general, accessible and to welcome new audiences.”

Scotland On Tour supports the creation of hundreds of concerts and performances at much-loved arts centres, town halls and community venues across Scotland.

More than 120 artists are set to perform at more than 100 venues across the country as part of the initiative.

The project, which has been created and managed by Active Events, was made possible by £750,000 of Scottish Government backing and will focus on increasing the number of opportunities to showcase and enjoy live music, while bringing exciting acts to the doorstep of city, towns, villages and rural communities.

The year-long Scotland On Tour bill includes both emerging and established artists with genre-spanning acts appearing across the breadth and width of the country, with rock, pop, jazz, classical, folk, trad and acoustic genres all being showcased.
