A FINE show of young musical talent was evident at Inverurie Music's Award scheme fund-raising concert in St Andrews Church on Saturday evening.

The midsummer musical evening aimed to boost the Award scheme funds available for young musicians for 2023.

It featured recitals from the Aberdeen based Nova Quartet made up of Nataila Naismith, Erin Smith, (violins) Emma Alexander (viola)and Gareth John (cello) and some very talented young people from schools in the Garioch.

An unusual contribution came from Ukrainian Alisa Anhel a Meldrum Academy pupil, with her Bandura, the national instrument of Ukraine.

This complicated instrument looks a bit like a harp but has 54 strings resulting in powerful and haunting melodies.

ABBA's Mamma Mia was the choice of Meldrum Academy pupil Jamie Grimmer, singe/songwriter and guitarist.

Jamie is particularly proud of his latest acquisition, an electric guitar which he sourced from Japan.

Sisters Olwenn and Linden Stewart are both pianists while Linden also favours the clarinet.

Olwenn has recently left school and will shortly be going to Aberdeen university to study music.
