Strong swimming performance ends in Paralympic final place for Turriff's Conner Morrison

TURRIFF swimmer Conner Morrison who competed in the mens 100m breaststroke S14 claimed his place in the paralympic event final.
He made the final after qualifying second in his heat with a time of 1:08:01 which placed him sixth overall fastest along with fellow Team GB competitor Scott Quin who qualified third fastest with a time of 1:06:20.
Drawn in lane seven, the final saw Japan's Naohide Yamaguchi break the world record to come home in 1:03:77 in the gold position with Australia's Jake Michael in silver and Scott Quin claiming bronze.
Conner finished a highly creditable eight in the race repeating his qualifying time of 1:08:01.
The 24-year-old breaststroke specialist trains as part of the University of Aberdeen performance programme, alongside the likes of three-time Olympian Hannah Miley.
A competitive swimmer from an early age, he started out in Inverurie at the Garioch Gators and Swimming club before progressing to the performance programme where he has been for seven years.
At his debut European Championships in Dublin, he made the podium on the opening day of competition as he took silver in the SB14 100m Breaststroke.
In 2017 he claimed British Para-Swimming International gold in the Men’s 100m Breaststroke, and successfully qualified for his first World Championships, but missed out on the chance to race due to the earthquake in Mexico.
In May this year at the World Para Swimming European Open Championships in Madeira, he retained his silver in the Men’s SB14 100m Breaststroke.
