The existing toilet block next to the Town House has been closed since 2016 and proposal has been made by the Strichen Town House charitable organisation to take it over with a view to its demolition.

In a report to councillors it was explained: "Strichen Town House SCIO propose that, if granted the Asset Transfer, the existing toilet block will be demolished enabling access to Strichen Town House for construction of an extension, a sensitive restoration project to the Category A listed building and formation of a new, accessible, public entrance and access to both floors of Strichen Town House via the new extension.

"In addition, the approved plans for the extension include the provision of publicly accessible toilets which can be open daily.

"The restoration of Strichen Town House and its reuse as a community run facility is a complex and multi-faceted

project which will require an extensive funding package to be realised.

"The transfer and demolition of the non-operation public toilet block is an early, enabling stage of the project.

"The access provided through the public toilet site is essential for both construction and restoration phases and the eventual long term public access to the building through the new extension.

"While work continues by the organisation to finalise the long-term mix of uses for the building and a funding package, the asset transfer has been identified as an essential enabling step to the sustainability of the project. "

The plan is being marked for approval by the committee which meets on Tuesday.
