A spokesperson said: "We're sorry to all of our customers who were caught up in the widespread disruption today caused by Storm Gerrit.

"The following routes that were closed this evening, will remain closed tomorrow until a full inspection can be carried out by Network Rail Scotland.

Aberdeen – Dundee

Inverness - Perth

Aberdeen - Inverness

West Highland Lines

Kyle & Far North Lines

Largs – Glasgow Central

Balloch – Bowling

Glasgow Central - Stranraer/Carlisle via Kilmarnock & Dumfries

"We are working hard to source as many replacement buses & activate as much ticket acceptance as possible for tomorrow but replacement transport will be limited so please consider making alternative arrangements if you are planning on travelling on the above routes early tomorrow.

"If you have a ticket for today, remember, you can use it up until Friday or claim a full refund if you decide not to travel."
