Storm damage sees thousands of households affected by power outages across the north-east

In an update on the impact seen across SSEN's transmission network this today as a result of the exceptionally bad weather being caused by Storm Babet engineers have been tackling a backlog of power outages.

A spokesperson said: "We’ve already restored power to almost 7000 of our customers, and we are working to reconnect around 3000 additional households.

"We expect to see the impacts of this ongoing storm for the rest of today and into tomorrow, and we have 10 times our usual number of people ready to react to issues on the network as they arise.

"Please don’t go near any damaged equipment – stay back, stay safe and call us on the emergency power cut number 105."
