Stagecoach has donated £25,000 to Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) as part of its Giving for Good community fund.

Establishing clear targets to foster community development through charitable activities as part of its sustainability strategy, Stagecoach pledged to donate 0.5 per cent of profits each year to charitable causes across the UK.

Since its service launched in 2013, SCAA has become a vital part of Scotland’s frontline emergency response network, responding to 999 trauma incidents and medical emergencies across the country, covering an area of more than 30,000 square miles and around 100 islands.

SCAA currently operates two helicopters and two rapid response vehicles which take life-saving care to the scene of time-critical emergencies and transport patients to hospitals all over Scotland to receive the most appropriate care.

Charlotte Somerville, head of corporate communications and deputy chairwoman of Stagecoach Charity Committee said: “It was a pleasure to visit the team at SCAA this week and learn more about the important work they do to provide lifesaving care to the people of Scotland.

“Our Giving for Good community fund was set up to help charities like SCAA and give back to our local communities, and we are delighted that this donation will help support that and the team of brilliant people who keep the service running every day of the year.”

Scottish Charity Air Ambulance depute chief executive Doug Cross said: “Stagecoach has been a valued partner of SCAA since we first launched, and this latest significant donation further demonstrates their commitment to our service.

“The whole SCAA team is grateful to everyone involved with Stagecoach’s Giving For Good initiative and can reassure them that this funding will save lives.”

Mr Cross added: “The Stagecoach logo has had a prominent position on the tail of our two helicopters since day one in recognition of the support provided by the company to SCAA and the delivery of our life-saving service.”

SCAA is Scotland’s only charity air ambulance service - funded by the people of Scotland, for the people of Scotland - securing funding primarily through donations, trusts, foundations, corporate sponsors, fundraising events and its life-saving lottery.
