SSEN Transmission announces additional Kintore to Tealing power line event in Stonehaven

SSEN Transmission will hold an additional public engagement event in Stonehaven on Monday, March, 11 providing a further opportunity for people to discuss proposed plans to upgrade the energy transmission network in Aberdeenshire and Angus, as part of a package of upgrades across the north of Scotland.
The event is being held to discuss proposals for a new 400kV substation in Fetteresso Forest (Hurlie), part of proposals that will include a new 400kV overhead line (OHL) connecting this substation to the existing 400kV substation at Kintore and a new proposed 400kV substation near the existing substation in Tealing, Angus.
It takes place as part of SSEN Transmission’s next phase of public consultations on its plans to invest £20bn in the transmission infrastructure in the north of Scotland, enabling the transfer of renewable energy in support of national net zero goals while creating jobs and economic opportunity across the region.
The event, which takes place at Stonehaven Bowling Club on March 11 between 1pm-6pm, is being held in response to community feedback calling for additional consultation venues.
Previous consultation with local communities in the area saw the previously proposed new substation at Fiddes in the Mearns moved to the new proposed site in Fetteresso Forest, near the existing Fetteresso substation, with associated changes to overhead line routes.
Calum Grant, Project Manager from SSEN Transmission, said: “We’re holding this event in Stonehaven in direct response to requests from the local community, as part of our current round of public consultations on the next phase of development for four transmission infrastructure schemes across the north of Scotland, which are enabling the connection and transportation of vast amounts of new renewable energy around Great Britain.
“Through consultation we have already made significant alterations to plans in response to community feedback, and this provides a further opportunity to influence route alignments and associated tower locations ahead of potential options being presented for consultation in summer 2024.
“We’d encourage anyone with an interest in our proposals for the new 400kV substation in Fetteresso Forest and the associated overhead line to come along to our event at Stonehaven Bowling Club, where people will be able to view further information about our proposed site, meet the team and ask questions.
