SSEN publishes initial responses for Kintore- Tealing 400kV project

SSEN Transmission has said in a statement that it: "Would like to thank all stakeholders who have taken the time to provide their feedback on proposals to develop a new 400 kV overhead electricity transmission line between Kintore, Fiddes and Tealing, which includes new substations at Fiddes and Tealing to support the line."
Following an initial review of the feedback received so far, SSEN Transmission has published an initial response to address some of the key themes which have been identified.
Once the feedback period closes, a detailed Report on Consultation will also be published to explain how feedback has been considered to inform the more detailed network design.
The consultation period for the project was recently extended by two weeks in direct response to requests from the community, and SSEN Transmission continues to encourage anyone with an interest in the project to share their views by Friday, June 23.
A spokesperson for SSEN Transmission said: “The Kintore-Fiddes-Tealing 400kV overhead line project is part of a major upgrade of the electricity transmission network across Great Britain that is required to meet UK and Scottish Government climate change and energy security targets.
“It is important to note that the project is in the early stages of development and no specific overhead line route alignments or substation locations have been identified.
“We are currently seeking feedback on potential corridor and route options and preferred substation locations, and would like to thank everyone who has shared their feedback so far which will be carefully considered as we further refine our plans.
"Today we are sharing our initial response to some of the key themes received in the feedback so far and encourage anyone with an interest in the project to continue to share their views with us.
“We recently extended the consultation period by two weeks and would encourage people to provide their feedback by Friday, June 23.
"We will continue to engage with affected communities and wider stakeholders in advance of the next round of public consultation that will take place later this year on potential overhead line alignments and substation locations.
“We would also like to reassure stakeholders that we will continue to engage on our proposals after the formal consultation period closes as we further refine our plans to deliver this critical national infrastructure that is key to delivering a pathway to Net Zero and secure the country’s future energy independence.”
Separately, new analysis published on Tuesday by SSEN Transmission outlines how projects in their Pathway to 2030 programme, which includes the Kintore-Fiddes-Tealing 400kV overhead line, will help to deliver substantial economic benefit to Scotland and the UK - supporting thousands of high value green jobs from early careers opportunities to technical roles, helping to accommodate those transitioning from the oil and gas sectors too.
Known as the ‘Pathway to 2030’ programme, this £10 billion programme of investment into the transmission network across the north of Scotland will play a key role in enabling the connection of up to 11GW of new offshore wind capacity through ScotWind projects, enough to power more than ten million homes in the UK and supporting 20,000 jobs across the UK, 9,000 of which will be in Scotland.
