Crowds flock to Huntly town centre to see Speyside Stages rally cars regroup

THE Speyside Stages rally re-group in the centre of Huntly last Saturday has been hailed a success.

Nearly 100 Rally cars roared into Huntly square after tackling the Gartly Moor stage.

The re-group was a necessary part of the day to allow the last cars to complete the Balloch Stage ahead of the second run.

David Law who co-ordinated arrangements locally said: “Usually we use lay bys or the entrance to the forest for the cars but this year we wanted to bring the rally to a new audience.

“Location wise Huntly was perfect - it’s been at the heart of the rally as a service point for years and is surrounded by stages but the town isn’t really associated with the rally. It was a mixed crowd proving rallying appeals to a big audience and many had never experienced this before.

“Although a lot of people from the town had come out a lot of visitors had come in after watching the rally start in Elgin. Thanks to everyone who supported the event.”

Huntly driver John Wink and Jack Ingleby were of particular local interest and many waited to see and hear the Ford Mustang.
