The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Aberdeen section has announced its 2022/2023 session launch will take place at Aberdeen Science Centre on September 14.

Aberdeen section chairperson Graham Dallas will be announcing key events for the year including its bursary programme of £25,000.

Each year, the bursaries are open to students studying energy-related subjects from the University of Aberdeen, Robert Gordon University, the University of Dundee, Heriot Watt University and the University of Strathclyde.

The session launch will introduce the vital work SPE Aberdeen does to ensure the industry’s future generation is engaged and educated.

This includes mentoring at local schools, liaising with teachers at key SPE conferences and providing a programme of key note speakers and presentations on a range of subjects.

Chairperson Graham Dallas said: “We are delighted to be kicking off this year’s session with our first in-person launch since 2019.

"It is a fantastic opportunity to meet the committee chairpersons and hear first-hand about the insight they have from volunteering in the different industry focuses SPE has.

"Sharing technical knowledge is at the core of SPE and as much as this applies on a peer-to-peer basis, it is even more important that we share this knowledge and support our industry’s future generation.”

The Aberdeen section has over 1100 professional members ranging from drilling and completions engineers to production and operations specialists, HSE practitioners, and other professionals.

The membership also has 300 student members from five student chapters: Heriot Watt University, University of Strathclyde, University of Dundee, Robert Gordon University and University of Aberdeen.

SPE Aberdeen works closely with the energy industry, Scottish universities and local schools, institutes and academia, to advance the learning and technical excellence in all aspects of the industry, offshore, onshore and internationally.
