Aberdeen’s Gilbert and Sullivan Society is seeking new cast members to join their hearty crew for their next production of The Pirates of Penzance.

Chairman Emily Scott said: “It doesn’t matter what your experience level is, some of our cast members have performed professionally and others had never stepped foot on a stage before.

"We believe theatre is for everyone and welcome all new cast members with open arms.”

The group will be holding an introductory session on Sunday, October 2, at 7pm at Aberdeen Academy Of Dance.

Continuing, Emily said: “The introductory session is perfect for anyone who might be curious about joining before having to get up and audition.

“At the session we’ll teach some of the music in the show and give people an opportunity to ask about the society or the production.”

The Pirates Of Penzance, also known as The Slave Of Duty, is one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s best known comedic operas and is full of the usual twists and turns.

A pirate king with a forgiving streak, a group of cowardly police, the Major-General and his many young daughters, a young lad with a true sense of duty and the story of young love in a plot that hangs around the fact that our protagonist is born on February 29.

Explaining, Emily said: “This group has been bringing Gilbert and Sullivan shows to Aberdeen since 1976 and Pirates never fails to be a crowd pleaser.

"As a show, it has a real timeless quality and has been performed across the world.

"We last performed this show in 2014 and are incredibly excited to return to the material.”

The show will set sail at The Tivoli Theatre on March 9-11, 2023.

Anyone interested in attending the information session can find more information on the group's Facebook page.
