Councillor Glen Reynolds, who lives in Alford, has been selected by the Scottish National Party as its candidate for West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine in the Westminster General Election expected to be held in 2024.

First elected as a councillor for Banff and District in 2017, he is the SNP group lead spokesperson on the council’s communities policy committee, which incorporates community resilience, sports and community facilities, housing and health, as well as tackling poverty and inequalities.

He has also been a member of the Aberdeenshire Integration Joint Board, which oversees all aspects of health and social care provision.

He has widespread legal experience of more than 35 years, including within the oil and gas industry and has worked extensively within media focused legal practices as a senior partner, and as a consultant to a number of charitable organisations.

During the completion of his PhD, Councillor Reynolds worked extensively abroad with third sector organisations in nations which were working through conflict and post conflict scenarios.

Commenting on his selection Councillor Reynolds said: “I am honoured to have been selected to represent the SNP in the forthcoming election.

"A priority for me is to ensure that the oil and gas sector, which is hugely significant in the constituency, is maintained as a key stakeholder, employer, investor and partner in discussions that take place around energy policy and transition.

"I will not turn my back on tens of thousands of jobs, nor the long-term opportunities for partnership work around our aspirations to a net zero economy. It is not a binary choice.

“The SNP must refresh its relationship with business and ensure that wellbeing and economics are two sides of one coin.

"That coin is moulded on the premise of independence being achieved, whereby the people of Scotland are in charge of all the decisions that impact on their lives. It’s at the heart of what democracy is all about. Democracy is all about social justice, too."
