MSP Douglas Ross is to table a no confidence vote at Holyrood after the ending of the Bute House agreement deal between the SNP and the Green party this morning.

First Ministers Questions which started today at noon were dominated by the announcement with the Scottish Tory leader addressing the chamber to inform them of his plans to table the motion of no confidence in Humza Yousaf. This requires a minimum support of at least 25 MSPs with convention being that members are given notice of at least two sitting days before a vote can takes place. At present the Scottish Conserviatives have a total of 31 MSPs.

The SNP has 63 seats in the Scottish Parliament while all the other parties together have 66 meaning that a decision on voting by the Green Party will be critical and could see the first minister lose the vote which while not actually binding would from a political stance mean that he would obliged to resign and which could potentially raise the prospect of an early Holyrood election.
