SCOTLAND’S Charity Air Ambulance has launched a new fundraising campaign asking supporters to donate the cost of their usual travel expenses to the charity.

With many working from home due to the coronavirus pandemic, a significant number of people are no longer spending money on their regular fuel and travel costs. SCAA is asking people to fuel their life-saving flights instead.

The #DonateYourCommute campaign aims to help SCAA continue its vital work responding to trauma incidents and medical emergencies across the country.

The charity has two air ambulances with the second, based at Aberdeen, having been launched in April. Straight away, it was called out to incidents in Turriff and Buckie.

The air ambulance is funded by the people of Scotland, primarily through donations, fundraising, events and its life-saving lottery.

Nick Harvey, SCAA's Director of fundraising and communications, said: "Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many of our fundraising events have sadly, and understandably, had to be cancelled this year.

"As the charity relies solely on the public’s kind donations, we are hoping this campaign encourages people to pledge their support during these challenging times."

The charity is also encouraging supporters to spread the word after they donate their commute by using the hashtag #DonateYourCommute on social media.
