A miracle can be found on Constitution Street this December as Santa and his elves will be appearing at Aberdeen Science Centre for the return of its Science with Santa workshops.

Booking is now open for the winter-themed lab sessions, which are set to take place on Saturday, December 16 and Sunday, December 17.

The workshops have been sponsored by commercial cleaning company Tidy Green Clean, following on from the success of last year’s Christmas collaboration.

During the Science with Santa workshops, children will be able create their own miniature snowmen, or other snow-creations, with shaving foam and baking soda "snow", and can then "melt" the sculptures with a chemical reaction using vinegar "rain".

They will also be able to make their own special Christmas baubles, perfect for decorating their Christmas tree at home, using paint bubbles and chromatography.

Alongside the festive scientific shenanigans, Santa will be available for photo opportunities in the lab and will be sure to bring along a special gift for all the boys and girls he meets.

Admission to the Science with Santa workshop costs £18 per child. Included as part of this is participation in the session, a Christmas gift and photo with Santa Claus, admission for up to two accompanying adults and one hour of time on the exhibition floor, either prior to or after the workshop.

Under three’s can also join their older siblings at the centre for free but will not be able to take part in the workshop.

In addition to the support from Tidy Green Clean, the centre’s laboratory will be receiving a festive makeover ahead of the visit from Santa and his team of cheeky elves, courtesy of Aberdeen audiovisual company, AV One.

Places at the workshop sessions will be limited, so make sure to book ahead to avoid disappointment.

Calli Buchanan, public programme coordinator at Aberdeen Science Centre said: “Christmas is truly coming early for our visitors this year as Santa and his smartest elves will be transforming our lab into a winter wonderland for our Science with Santa workshops.

“The sessions will see children make, and then melt, their own snow sculptures, construct their own baubles for the Christmas tree and of course get to meet the main man himself, Santa Claus.

"We are delighted to have Tidy Green Clean return as a sponsor for the workshops after the success of last year’s visit from our North Pole-based friends.”
