Rotarians in Inverurie have continued with their efforts to support community projects which are helping out during the current pandemic response.

Having supported efforts by the Garioch Community Kitchen, members have also helped out the work being done by the New Scots community in the north-east to create scrub bags for health care staff.

As rotarian Jim McColl explained: “Along with many others, members of our club are working to alleviate some of the difficulties created by the present emergency.

" While the Rotary club meetings may be suspended for now, the work goes on, for example it has been widely reported that groups of people are working in their own homes in Inverurie to produce elements of the PPE.

"Our president elect Kay Diack handed over a bolt of cloth to one of the team who are busy making scrub bags.

"Behind the scenes, this is how it works.

"A request comes in to a Rotary member because there may be a shortage of suitable material, that message goes out to members using our Whatsapp.

" In this case Kay herself responded saying that mum-in-law worked for Anderson’s as a seamstress for 40 years so an approach made to Sandy Anderson.

"Accordingly a bolt of suitable cloth was sourced and gifted and Kay went out to deliver it."

Last Friday alone, families in Inverurie, Kintore and Ellon produced another 110 scrub bags for NHS staff and care workers, bringing their grand total to 510 bags in a single week.

Meantime work continues behind the scenes to wind up the Rotary business for the year 2019 – 2020 and prepare of the new Rotary year 20/21 and that includes formalising the election of Officers and committee convenors. Meantime the work goes on.
