Two young local girls have made good use of their free time while schools have had to close due to the coronavirus pandemic to bring a smile to others.

Rebecca and Hayley Gilmour from Inverurie thought it would be nice use their creative skills to try and cheer up people passing by on their daily walks in these difficult times.

They came up with the idea of collecting rocks to paint rainbows and other designs on them before replacing them on the path behind their house.

As time went on this has attracted children from all over the Inverurie area to do the same.

Mum, Kerry Gilmour, said: “This then became a daily task in our house and we all started to paint rocks and lay them on the path!

“We then started finding more rocks done by other people and the other night we counted a total of 201 rocks all beautifully painted in different themes.

“A note was left for the girls from a little boy telling them how much he enjoyed their rocks, especially a ladybird one, that Hayley had painted”.

“We have read some really positive comments on the Inverurie Residents page on Facebook and it has just inspired our girls to keep doing more.

“We are super proud of our girls.

“All they wanted to do was to make other people smile during such a bizarre and tough time.”

The family hope that people will continue to lay rocks all over the area as it has created such a positive community spirit.
