In the latest update from Aberdeenshire Council, the work is being extended.

A spokesperson said: "To help you plan your journey, please be advised that the road closure associated with roadworks on the Oldmeldrum Road has been extended for an extra seven days due to weather related delays. "

Local councillor Judy Whyte said: "We are all facing an unfortunate situation with multiple road works by different organisaions happening in and around the town at the same time.

"I and my fellow Inverurie and District Counillors are asking questions about whether work like this can be co-ordinated in future to minimise distuption to businesses, residents and visitors especailly at such a busy time of year for our town.

"However, we must be cognisant that some of the ongoing work may be unavoidable emergency repairs creating a cummulative effect."

The B9170 Inverurie to Oldmeldrum Road from Souterford Bridge to the junction with Osprey Heights only offers local access at points.

Diversions are via The North Link Road to B9001, B9001 to North Street, Inverurie, NorthStreet to West High Street, West High Street to Market Place, Market Place to Old Meldrum Road and vice versa.

Access will be provided for emergency vehicles and vehicles requiring access to properties but may be subject to delay until the road is cleared of construction plant to allow safe passage through the works.
