River rescue operation in Inverurie after man gets stuck in water during police pursuit

A rescue operation was carried out in Inverurie on Saturday morning when a man got stranded in the River Don during a police pursuit.

Officers carried out an arrest warrant in the Shunnery Brae area of the town at about 8am.

A foot chase took place and the 36-year-old man tried to cross the river and ended up having to be rescued.

Police vehicles, two fire engines, water rescue teams and an ambulance all attended the incident at Keithhall Road.

When the man was recovered he was arrested and taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary to be treated.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8am on Saturday, December 10, police attended the Shunnery Brae area of Inverurie to carry out an arrest warrant.

"A foot pursuit took place and the 36-year-old man subsequently had to be rescued after crossing into the river.

"He was arrested and has been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.”
