The 20-year scheme is aimed at saving threatened species including the river’s iconic spring-run Atlantic salmon.

It will also reduce the impacts of floods and droughts, benefitting all wildlife and communities, and it will involve the use of cutting-edge science.

It will deliver short-term benefits for the river as well as long-term measures to tackle the impacts of the growing climate and biodiversity loss crisis.

The project called Save the Spring is supported by the Atlantic Salmon Trust, the River Dee Trust, and the Dee District Salmon Fishery Board.

Information events on the project are free of charge and will have a range of speakers and a Q&A session, they are open to anyone who is passionate about the River Dee and also designed to educate the wider public about the issues our wild Atlantic salmon are facing and the innovative and forward-thinking solutions we are proposing to help them.

This week Save the Spring stakeholder events take place at the Legion in Banchory with the Atlantic Salmon Trust on Friday, January 12 (evening) or Saturday 13 (morning), there is also an online option for the 18th in the evening.

Please book to reserve your place at an in-person event or for the online event Zoom link.
